植物

現在、地球上では“汚染”“温暖化”がどんどん進んでいて、植物や動物などが“天然記念物”として大事にされている時代。
その中でも、昔はよく“北海道のお土産売り場”で見かけていた“マリモ”に注目！！
私自身、マリモといえば「そういえば昔、土産物売り場なんかでよく見かけたなぁ～」というイメージしかなく、それといって関心もありませんでした。

しかし、改めて調べていると“そうなんだ！！”ということがいろいろ解りましたので、紹介したいと思います。そういえば、我が家にも小さな入れ物に入れられたマリモが数個いたことも。。。言われてみると、最近めっきり見なくなった気がします、マリモちゃん。

まず初めに、マリモって漢字はどう書くのかわかりますか？分からない方のが多いのでは！！
「毬」+「藻」で「毬藻」＾＾見た目が毬のようだから、そう名づけられたんでしょうね。単純だけど、ナイスネーミングだと改めて感じます。

調べていて一番びっくりしたのが、マリモは、“糸状の藻”が集まって出来た物だということ！
私は、ずっと個体の生き物だとばかり思っていました。。。“藻”ということは、植物なんです。
“藻”たちが合わさって出来ているものだなんて。。植物って素晴らしいですね＾＾どういうことから、皆が合わるという性質が出来たんでしょう。。。

そして、マリモの“藻”の中には、球体の一部にはならずに、普通の“藻”として生きていくものもいるんだそう。「私はマリモにはなりたくない、ひとりで生きていく！！」という意思でもあるんでしょうか＾＾面白い発見です！！

ということは、酷い話にはなりますがマリモをバラバラにしても“藻”たちは生き続けるということ。マリモといえば、「可愛らしく、か弱い」というイメージがありますが、案外強い生き物なんですね＾＾頼もしい！

そんな強いマリモにもいずれ“最期”は訪れます。鮮やかな緑色が茶色っぽくなり、時間が経つと白くなるんです。もし、今マリモが家にいるという方がいたら、定期的に水を変えてあげたり、マリモを手のひらでコロコロ転がして洗ってあげたり、適度に日が当たる場所で、大切に育ててあげてくださいね♪

間違えても“金魚”などのような生き物と一緒にいれないように！！マリモが餌になってしまいます(^^;

他にも新たな発見を一つ。。皆さん、マリモって真ん丸なイメージがありますよね？
実は、球状になるのに条件が必要なんですよ！！条件を満たしていないマリモは、少し細長くなっていたり様々な形をしているんです。その条件とは、生息している場所の地形、波による水の流れ、湖の性質など細かいんです。丸いのが当たり前だと思っていましたが、大変なんですね。。。
売っているマリモは基本、人の手で丸めたものなんだそう。

マリモといえば、北海道というイメージが強いんですが、それ以外にも青森・山形・滋賀などでも発見されているみたいですよ！
