全国に存在する“天然記念物”
そして、一言で“天然記念物”といっても、動物に・・・鳥に・・山に・・とたくさんのジャンルがあります。

その中でも今回は“北海道の天然記念物”という事ですが、皆さん！！そもそも“天然記念物”とは何なのか詳しく知っていますか＾＾？

まず始めに、天然記念物とは“文化財保護法”や“地方自治体の条例”の条例によって定められている動物や植物、地質、鉱物などの自然物のことで、「史蹟名勝天然記念物保存法」というものが1919年に発布されて以降、学術上貴重な自然物が保護されてきました。

北海道では、“日本一大きな湿原”とされている「釧路湿原」や蝦夷富士とも呼ばれている「羊蹄山」をはじめ、大空町の「女満別湿生植物群落」根室市の「落石岬サカイツツジ自生地」など、約32種類のものが天然記念物の指定を受けているのです。その内の15件が動物なんだそうですよ～。

そんな中でも今回ピックアップするのは、“特別天然記念物”の指定を受けている「野幌原始林」

「野幌原始林」とは、札幌市と江別市、北広島市に跨る“野幌丘陵”の一角、北広島市西の里に広がっています。このスポットは、1921年（大正10年）に、天然記念物の指定を受けますが、“第二次大戦中”に軍用材として伐採が進んだことを受け、終戦から7年後の1952年（昭和27年）に、“希有の森林植物相”として「特別天然記念物」に指定されました。

戦争によって天然記念物になるはずだったものが、更に失われかけたために、本当に貴重なものとなってしまったわけですね・・・。
現在では、戦争というものが日本から無くなっています。その代わりにといえばおかしくなるかもしれませんが、深刻化している“自然災害”が私自身、最も怖いと思っているのです。

毎年夏～秋頃に訪れる“台風”
台風は、主に“沖縄”から九州・四国～関東へと抜けていくルートをたどることが多いのですが、最近それもわからなくなっていますよね・・・。

いつも北海道に台風が来る頃には、温帯低気圧に変わっていて、ほとんど被害を与えなかったのが、今ではそれも危うくなっています。
